Lap after lap, Katie Ledecky glided through the 1500-meter freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics, miles ahead of everyone else. For about fifteen minutes, it was just her, the water, and her thoughts. When asked afterward what she was thinking, she said she was focusing on her training partners, calling their names in her head. It turns out, staying focused is not just for swimmers. As pupils of PJLC, we also need to watch our thoughts, to stay focused, and determined. Paul told the Philippians to “rejoice in the Lord,” not worry, and pray about everything (Philippians 4:6, 7). The result? God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds. He also encouraged believers to dwell on what is true, pure, lovely, and admirable (v. 8). Like Katie focusing on the right thing in that long race, we can focus on God’s blessings, see His hand at work, and live with gratitude and peace.
